Good News! Dutch superstar offered two-year Manchester United deal

Good News! Dutch superstar offered two-year Manchester United deal - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie hasn’t had a great start to the new campaign. The 31-year-old, who was so prolific in his debut season for Manchester United helping United win their 20th league title, hasn’t quite found that form in the past two seasons, with injury playing part as well.

He hinted of returning back to form after scoring late equaliser against Chelsea, but was criticised heavily for his lacklustre performance against Manchester City.

There were even rumours that Fenerbahce had made contacts with his agent, but the Turkish club were told to keep patience, as the striker currently not looking for a move.

Despite his recent dip in form, he is still one of the key players for Manchester United and certainly Louis van Gaal wants him to stay. According to reports from Dutch media outlet Soccer News, Manchester United are set to offer a new two-year-bumper contract to Van Persie that will keep him at the club till 2018.

Van Persie reportedly earns around £250k-a-week, but it is still unknown whether there will be an increment in salary or a drop in his payment.

The youngster recently gave an interview where he expressed his desire to play for Real Madrid someday. He appeared even in the front page of Marca and is happy that his name has been linked with one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Now reports in Spain suggest that Chelsea are also showing a keen interest in him and would be looking to bring the attacking midfielder in the New Year.

It will be interesting to see what decision the youngster makes in the next few weeks, as although he would have some preference from Madrid, he could be persuaded by a good offer from the Premier League side.

Club legend hints at Chelsea transfer

Club legend hints at Chelsea transfer - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Petr Cech made his first appearance for Chelsea in the league on Sunday against Arsenal, coming on as a replacement for the injured Thibaut Courtois.

The 32-year-old goal keeper is largely frustrated with the role on the bench and said he would look for a solution if his situation doesn’t improve in the next few months.

cech Club legend hints at Chelsea transfer

“I have not spoken to anyone, but I think they know me well enough at the club to know that the situation is definitely not the way I would imagine,” the goalkeeper told Czech radio while on international duty.

“With the Euros (in 2016) and the national team in mind, there is no time for me to sit on the bench and not to play. If the situation will not start to improve for me, then I will want to solve it.“

Although Jose Mourinho would love to have Cech in the side, a luxury really to have two world class goal keepers, but he really cannot keep both the players happy at the same time.

Courtois is the first choice goal keeper at the club and given his assured performances so far in the league, there is no reason why he should be dropped to the bench. At the same time, Cech is too good a player to warm bench week in week out.

Cech is still good enough to play for any top club in the world and therefore a move away from Stamford Bridge could be on the cards.

Premier League Week 4: All eyes on Manchester United and Arsenal

Premier League Week 4: All eyes on Manchester United and Arsenal - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Football returns to the Premier League this weekend after the international hiatus. We have some cracking games coming up, the pick of the bunch being Manchester City’s away trip to Arsenal.

Can Manchester United register their first win?

Still without a victory in their first three matches, an opening day defeat to Swansea at Old Trafford, only two points on board, 14th in the league table and so many injury problems – possibly not even the worst possible start Manchester United and Louis van Gaal had expected.

This has been a ground-breaking summer for Manchester United. The club has broken the British transfer record to sign Angel di Maria from Real Madrid and has signed seven new players for nearly £150m including a certain world class striker Radamel Falcao on the transfer deadline day. It’s time they deliver on the pitch.

Ashley Young has made a strong statement by saying that it would be foolish to write United off so early this season. He feels that a change is around the corner but for that to happen Manchester United need to win games. They need to put points on board. Quickly.

On paper Manchester United should win comfortably against QPR on Sunday. These are the games United can hardly afford to drop points if they are serious about challenging for top four.

How Liverpool will line-up without Daniel Sturridge?

Sturridge will miss Liverpool’s home game against Aston Villa this weekend through an ankle injury. His absence could force Rodgers to tweak his tactical plans.

In the last match against Tottenham, Rodgers used a diamond system with Sturridge and Balotelli upfront. In absence of the England striker, he can put Fabio Borini or Ricky Lambert to partner Balotelli, should he continue with the same formation. Otherwise, Balotelli can operate as a lone striker in either 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system.

Can Chelsea maintain their perfect start?

Chelsea will face joint league-leader Swansea, who like their opponent have made a perfect start to the season, on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa, who already has four goals to his name this season, could miss out through injury. In his absence, new signing Loic Remy is expected to lead the line. At home, Chelsea should win, but Swansea, who have conceded only one goal so far, should put up a strong fight.

New journey for Ben Arfa

Hatem Ben Arfa’s loan move to Hull City wasn’t greeted well by the Newcastle United fans. His relationship with Alan Pardew had completely broken down and probably it was right for him to move elsewhere to reignite his career.

Ben Arfa is capable of producing moments of genius but his inconsistency is well documented at the same time. He may be a temperamental genius, but a genius nevertheless.

He is like a poet with a disruptive burst of art. And most of the time it appalls more than it appeases. May be a change of environment could bring the best out of him again.

The big match: Arsenal v Man City

After scoring two goals for England on Monday night against Switzerland, much of the pre-match hype is now being centered on Arsenal’s new striker Danny Welbeck, who joined for a reported fee of £16m on transfer deadline day from Manchester United.

The 23-year-old will be given the central striker role he has been desperately craving. He is tactically one of the smartest forwards England have at the moment and likewise there is no better manager in the Premier League who can unlock his true potential than Arsene Wenger. He can only improve from here on.

Arsenal’s recent record against Manchester City is poor, with the Gunners having won only twice in their last 10 Premier League meetings. City on the other hand are coming to this match on the back of a shock 1-0 defeat at home against Stoke City. The champions can hardly afford another defeat here on Saturday.

Have we seen the best of Wayne Rooney?

Have we seen the best of Wayne Rooney? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Wayne Rooney undoubtedly stands out as one of the best English players of his generation. He has been England’s best forward for the past ten years or so and is truly a “world class” player in his own right.

At 28, he has played over 600 games for both club and country and has scored over 260 goals in his career. He is only 33 goals shy of becoming all-time leading scorer at Manchester United, while he has won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a Champions League’s medal with the Old Trafford club.

Having achieved so much success in his glittering career so far, many are harbouring this doubt now: have we already seen the best of Wayne Rooney?

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher feels that probably we’re in a position to say ‘yes’ to that question. Usually the 27-31 years phase is widely regarded as the peak time for any footballer. During this period, in most cases, players perform at their highest level with supreme consistency than ever.

“Yet Wayne is different. Making his debut in the Barclays Premier League at 16 confirmed him as exceptional but it also meant there was potential for him to peak early”, wrote Carragher in his column for Daily Mail.

He added: “Competing at the highest level for the past 12 years, with all the pressure and intensity that accompanies it, leaves a mark.

“Can you imagine, from the age of 18, having to carry the burden of being the man for club and country?”

Carragher has drawn the comparison with Robbie Fowler saying that like Rooney, the England forward started his career at an early age of 19 and within next three-four years went on to become Liverpool’s best striker, but by the time he reached 26, he was a spent force and no longer treated as the first choice at Anfield.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has refuted such notions and claims that Rooney is still one of the very best in the Premier League.

“Some people might wonder if we have seen the best of him. I don’t. I still believe he is one of the best in the Premier League,” said Moyes.

“There will always be young players pushing hard for his place but right now I don’t believe there is anyone who can dislodge him for club and country.

“In time, I can see him moving further back on the pitch and becoming a midfielder, and a good one at that.

“He has a great range of passing and understanding of the game, someone who can play in any position. He was even pretty good in goal! But he still has that instinct as a striker.”

First of all, it is unclear what Carragher tried to imply by saying Rooney had past his best: have we seen the best of Rooney “as a striker” or “as a complete footballer?”

Yes, there is a subtle difference. Rooney plays as a forward no doubt, but he has hardly been used as a no 9 for his club throughout his career. In 2009-10, he played the entire season as a lone striker and ended up with 34 goals for the club. Also, in 2011-12, he mostly played upfront on his own and finished the season with 34 goals again.

However, Rooney is versatile, modern and a complete forward. He is the central creative fulcrum of Manchester United and brings lot more to the game than just simply scoring goals. Probably a reason why apart from those two seasons Rooney has never scored over 25 goals in a season again. So, judging Rooney based on his goal scoring prowess only won’t present the whole picture.

The comparison with Robbie Fowler also isn’t apt here. With due respect to the Liverpool legend, his was a case of being unable to cope up with the changing evolution of football and not suffering from the burden of pressure as cited by Carragher. Fowler was a typical old-school poacher – the role which was very popular in the early & mid 90’s and of course way before that.

The rise of Michael Owen, another poacher type striker made life difficult for Fowler especially post 2000, as then Liverpool managers (as well as England managers) found hard to take the risk of playing with two similar strikers. A reason why Emile Heskey, who with his physical presence and strong hold-up play gave Liverpool attack a different dimension was preferred to partner Owen, despite him being nowhere near to the class and quality of Fowler.

Rooney is a complete modern footballer and has shown great qualities of adaptability throughout his career. Be it as a flexible forward in Sir Alex Ferguson’s 4-3-3 system alongside Ronaldo and Tevez, swapping positions with Steven Gerrard in Fabio Capello’s system or dropping deep as a central midfielder – Rooney has shown great tactical awareness hardly found in any other contemporary English striker. Should Rooney continue to perform at this level for the next three to four years, it will be ludicrous to say that he had past his best.

People still remember that raw, fearless and boisterous Wayne Rooney of Euro 2004, while talking about his major contributions. But one should understand at the same time that every “world class” player goes through a process of natural change as they mature with passing years and Rooney is no exception to that rule.

Liverpool ‘ready to close deal’ for World Cup hero

Liverpool ‘ready to close deal’ for World Cup hero - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said in the pre-match presser against Tottenham that he is not expecting new faces to arrive at Anfield, when asked about Liverpool’s transfer plans in the next 48 hours.

Rodgers admitted that there could be loan moves for players who are not getting games at the club, as we saw young Jordan Ibe moving to Derby County on a season loan loan.

However, reports in Italy suggest that Liverpool are still to complete one more new signing before the transfer window shuts. Having already signed Mario Balotelli from AC Milan, Rodgers is looking to capitalise the Italian market again.

According to reports from GDM, the Reds manager is looking to sign Argentine goal keeper Sergio Romero, who impressed heavily during the World Cup in Brazil.

Rodgers wants to add competition for the goal keeping spot and finds Sampdoria keeper Romero as perfect player to do the job. Di Marzio claim that Liverpool are close to sealing a deal, with English media now reporting that the player’s agent Mino Raiola (same agent of Balotelli) has arrived in England to complete the transfer.

Romero would become tenth major signing of the season for Liverpool, should he join the club within next couple of days.

Deal Agreed, Manchester United and Juventus finally set for transfer today

Deal Agreed, Manchester United and Juventus finally set for transfer today - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Finally, Manchester United and Juventus are close to completing a deal. We still don’t know whether United can seal a deal for Arturo Vidal, but reports from Italy suggest, Juventus might secure a deal for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker has dropped down the pecking orders at Old Trafford and is seen as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. His national coach has earlier insisted that Hernandez needs to move elsewhere to get regular games under his belt.

Juventus are in dire need of a striker. The Bianconeri were linked with several top strikers this summer, including Falcao, but it seems like Hernandez represents the best possible option for them.

According to Sportmediaset, Juventus have agreed personal terms with the player after lodging a formal bid for the Mexican. The Serie A giants are waiting for the response of Manchester United.

The report claim that on Thursday, that is yesterday, Juventus have met with the player’s agent in Milan where they negotiated about the personal deal. Juventus have offered a loan move with a view to make it permanent.

Chicharito is therefore closer to securing a move and the deal could be completed today. United wanted a permanent transfer for him but with no other clubs in the market ready to sign him, the Red Devils are left with no options at the moment rather to accept the offers from Juventus.
